The portrait is where photography's extractive logic is most exposed. A subject sits across from the camera and the negotiation begins. Every element is deliberate; posture, light, distance, expression, each decision a method for creating the conditions under which something true can surface. The control is not a means of fabrication but of pressure. The more intentional the frame, the less room there is for the subject to hide behind presentation.
